After a series of fast-paced days at the Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games, the initial phase of competition is coming to a close. The Corner Brook Civic Centre was abuzz with intense action as ball hockey competitors from various parts of the province vied for top honors on Tuesday.
In the gold medal showdown, Team Mount Pearl South emerged victorious over Team Avalon with a score of 4-3. The winning goal was netted by thirteen-year-old Raine Foss from Paradise, who expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. Raine shared, “I passed it back to the defense, saw the opening, made my move, and scored. Representing MPS is fantastic; this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance.”
Teammate Reid Swain was elated to depart Corner Brook adorned with a gold medal. He remarked, “After months of hard work, we didn’t believe we could pull it off. But we did, and it feels amazing.”
Although Team Avalon’s Ryan Walsh didn’t clinch the desired medal color, he cherished the enjoyable moments in Corner Brook, saying, “Staying with the guys in school and all the other activities were great fun.”
Team Central managed to secure the bronze medal, a feat that filled 14-year-old Jack Stone from Grand Falls-Windsor with pride. Stone expressed his joy, stating, “It’s truly ecstatic. You enter a tournament unsure of your performance, so winning a medal is satisfying.”
