“Virgin Media Tops UK Broadband Speeds in 2025”

Broadband has become an indispensable part of our daily routines, supporting activities like streaming entertainment, remote work, home security through internet-connected cameras, and managing smart home devices. As the demand for fast and reliable internet grows due to increased usage of connected devices and online content streaming, the quality of broadband service from various providers comes into focus.

According to SpeedGo, a new broadband speed-testing service, not all internet service providers (ISPs) deliver the same level of performance. Recent data from SpeedGo reveals that Virgin Media leads the UK in average download speeds at an impressive 256.5Mbps, enabling users to download a full HD movie in just over two minutes, significantly faster than the national average.

Following Virgin Media, Vodafone ranks second with average download speeds of 175Mbps, while BT (EE) takes the third spot. On the other end of the spectrum, TalkTalk lags behind with an average speed of under 95Mbps.

In terms of average download speeds across the UK, the rankings are as follows:

– Virgin Media: 256.5Mbps
– Vodafone: 175.1Mbps
– BT (EE): 122.5Mbps
– Sky Broadband: 113.6Mbps
– TalkTalk: 94.7Mbps

SpeedGo’s analysis also highlights upload speeds, crucial for users handling large files or working remotely. Vodafone stands out in this category with an average upload speed of 83.6Mbps, surpassing Virgin Media, which secures the second position with 47.2Mbps.

SpeedGo’s assessment confirms that in 2025, Virgin Media led the UK with the fastest broadband internet, boasting an average download speed of 256.5Mbps, while Vodafone achieved the highest average upload speed at 83.6Mbps.
