Get ready to snuggle up in your warmest sweater, grab a big cup of coffee, and prepare to revisit Stars Hollow, all you Gilmore Girls enthusiasts. HBO Max has revealed that a documentary dedicated to Gilmore Girls is currently in the works, promising exclusive footage and insider stories from the creative minds behind the beloved early 2000s favorite.

Reported by Variety, this upcoming documentary, without a title yet, will be narrated by series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband, executive producer Daniel Palladino. Notably, it will showcase prominent cast members and crew, including the lead actress Lauren Graham, known for her role as the quick-witted Lorelai Gilmore during the series’ initial seven-season run from 2000 to 2007 and its 2016 revival.

In a classic Babette and Miss Patty style, the documentary pledges to spill all the juicy details, exploring how the show exceeded expectations to become a multi-generational sensation by uncovering the unique chemistry of the creators, cast, crew, and partners, as per the documentary’s official synopsis. The documentary will unveil never-seen-before outtakes, behind-the-scenes clips, and script excerpts.

As Lorelai would put it: “Can you sense the snow coming?” Lauren Graham couldn’t contain her excitement and shared the news on Instagram, along with a series of nostalgic photos from the show, featuring Alexis Bledel, who played her literature-loving on-screen daughter, Rory Gilmore. The post also included snapshots of co-stars Melissa McCarthy, Scott Patterson, Keiko Agena, Kelly Bishop, Yanic Truesdale, Liz Torres, and the late Edward Herrmann.

The announcement quickly went viral, sparking a wave of reactions from fans. One enthusiast exclaimed, “Paused my Gilmore Girls episode to SCREAM AT THIS OMG,” while another simply stated, “Best day of my life x.”

The enduring appeal of this cult classic, almost two decades post its original run, remains somewhat of a puzzle. Some cultural analysts suggest that the show serves as a cozy, nostalgic security blanket for many millennials, with its rapid-fire pop culture references and quaint small-town charm.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, streaming data from platforms like Netflix, where the series has found a new audience, indicates that Gilmore Girls experiences a surge in viewership every fall since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, making it ideal for cozy season binge-watching.

Last month, fan excitement peaked as the iconic residence of the mother-daughter duo went up for sale in Unionville, Ont., where the pilot episode was filmed. HBO Max’s forthcoming documentary will mark the first officially sanctioned project about the show, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter. Additionally, an independent documentary featuring stars Kelly Bishop, Jared Padalecki, and Chad Michael Murray is reportedly in progress to commemorate the show’s 25th anniversary celebrated last October.

While HBO Max has not disclosed a release date for the documentary, it’s safe to assume that, following the show’s iconic theme song, fans will be eagerly waiting to follow wherever it leads.
