The Greenville County Coroner’s Office has determined that the recent passing of Hayden Panettiere was accidental, with the cause of death attributed to the “toxic effects” of a combination of drugs, including fentanyl.
Panettiere, acclaimed for her roles in TV series such as “Heroes” and “Nashville,” passed away on August 16 at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, where she was residing. Upon the arrival of emergency responders, Panettiere was found in cardiac arrest, and attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.
After a collaborative investigation by the Coroner’s Office and the Greenville City Police Department, it was confirmed that the toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Alprazolam, Methocarbamol, and Quetiapine were the primary cause of her death.
Among the drugs present, Quetiapine is utilized to treat conditions like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, while Alprazolam is prescribed for anxiety and panic disorders. Methocarbamol functions as a muscle relaxant, and 4-ANPP is a compound associated with fentanyl production, a potent opioid.
The autopsy revealed no signs of trauma contributing to Panettiere’s death. Reports later disclosed that she had been discharged from a rehabilitation facility in Malibu, California, a few weeks prior to her passing. The actress, who died shortly before turning 37, had openly shared her struggles with early fame, addiction, and mental health issues, including postpartum depression after her daughter’s birth in 2014.
Panettiere had candidly discussed her life experiences in various interviews and in her recent memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning.” Following her death, an outpouring of tributes and fond memories emerged from fans and colleagues.
Additionally, there was a resurgence of criticism towards Neutrogena, a skincare brand for which Panettiere had been a long-time brand ambassador. Allegations surfaced that the company severed ties with her after she spoke openly about her battle with postpartum depression.
