“Google Ends Chrome Support for Older MacBooks – Upgrade Required”

-

Google has issued a crucial alert for MacBook users who utilize the Chrome browser. The tech giant has announced the end of support for Chrome on older macOS versions, potentially leaving users vulnerable to security risks. While Chrome will still function on MacBooks and iMacs, updates and security patches will no longer be available.

The change impacts Mac users on macOS 12 (Monterey) or older versions. Google advises users on these platforms to upgrade to a newer operating system like macOS Ventura to continue receiving browser support. Unfortunately, some older Mac models, including pre-2017 iMacs and pre-2018 MacBook Airs, may not be compatible with Ventura, requiring users to consider purchasing new devices for safe Chrome usage.

Google’s final Chrome update supporting macOS 12 is version 150, with the transition set to take effect in July this year. Subsequently, Chrome version 151, scheduled for release on July 28, 2026, will necessitate macOS 13 Ventura or later for continued support. Users on older macOS versions will still be able to use Chrome but will not receive further updates. Google recommends transitioning to macOS 13 or newer to ensure access to the latest security features and Chrome updates.
